The Green Mountain landscape is dotted with breweries that have established Vermont as one of the premier beer destinations in the World. We pack a lot into our little state— abundant local foods, great music, natural beauty and amazing beer. Vermonters know the finest things in life are best enjoyed with good buds. Friends and brewers Sean Lawson and Mike Gerhart have teamed up to create a beer that features the best qualities of each brewery.
Lawson, the bold and adventurous brewer of Lawson’s Finest Liquids, has earned a reputation for top-notch IPAs and award-winning maple beers. Fans flock to central Vermont in search of his small-batch bottled creations and to enjoy his draught beer at a select stash of beer bars and restaurants. Gerhart is a rising-star in the Green Mountain beer scene. With a polished background at some of the most prestigious breweries in the United States, his hard work and commitment to excellence can be tasted in every batch of Otter Creek beer.
This collaboration creation combines the talents of the two brewers into the uniquely delicious Double Dose IPA— brewed in the spirit of friendship, fun and really great beer. Cheers!
We burned the rulebooks, and when the smoke cleared we created this counter-culture interpretation of a California Common that’s dosed with juicy hop flavors. Now available on draught and in 12oz. bottles.
California Common / Steam Beer
Description: The California Common, or Steam Beer, is a unique 100% American style lager. It’s usually brewed with a special strain of lager yeast that works better at warmer temperatures. This method dates back to the late 1800’s in California when refrigeration was a great luxury. The brewers back then had to improvise to cool the beer down, so shallow fermenters were used. So in a way the lager yeast was trained to ferment quicker at warmer temperatures. Today’s examples are light amber to tawny in color, medium bodied with a malty character. Mildly fruity with an assertive hop bitterness.
Anchor Brewing Co. trademarked the term “Steam Beer” and as such all other beers must be legally referred to as “California Common.”
Our second collaboration creation with Sean Lawson of Lawson’s Finest Liquids, Double or Nothing is a devilishly sweet Barley Wine that’s aged on maple wood and brewed with a heavenly dose of Vermont maple syrup.
Enjoy fresh or lay one down for future indulgence.
Every so often we brew this utopian stout that manifests flavors of caramel, chocolate and coffee. This silky smooth, motor-oil black brew clocks in at 10% ABV.
Like the first stouts brewed for Russian Czars, this offering is big, bold and built to last. Grab a few for the cellar, a couple for your comrades and enjoy because— like those Czars of yesteryear— this beer won’t be around for long.
