Make The Cut Tap Takeover – 2015 Top 4!

make-the-cut-tap-takeoverWe are ecstatic to announce a 4 tap takeover of last years
Winner Brett Seymour , Runner up Tom Poole and
2 of the Judges Favorites from last year whom have been secretly brewing up at 14th Star !

Congrats to
Anne Whyte of Essex Junction with her oh so tasty
“Little Bear Brown Beer”
A Malt focused American Brown. Mellow dark malt
character and a balanced hop/malt flavor. The Citra
hops in the finish help to distinguish this as an
American Brown, with the citrus aroma we love.

Also …. an outstanding Chocolate Raspberry Stout
Brewed by Leonard Halvorson – Colchester, VT
An American Stout brewed with copious amounts of
raspberry. Starts with a tart raspberry punch, which
eludes to rich dark chocolate and robust roasted flavors

Make the Cut Homebrew Finalists

The Make the Cut homebrew competition has produced two finalists that will brew and compete head to head!

~ Roland Maheaux ~

mtc-1  At 70 Years young, this Man offered us an German Alt Inspired Beer that was passed around by the Judges on Day 1 with a Cheer!
From Jericho, Meet Roland Maheaux!

“I have always enjoyed a great beer and first dabbled in home brewing back in 1992 when my daughter gave me a home brew kit for Christmas. The batch was horrible. I wanted to brew again and do it better. After many trips to the home brew supply store gathering a multitude of grains and hops I made a few prized recipes including Verkaufen pronounced (fer-ko-fin) which I named my German Alt Beer. I live in Jericho with my wife, Carole. We have three grown children and five grandchildren. My hobbies include brewing, playing drums, and summers at Lake Eden with myfamily. I am the president of Maheux Heating and Refrigeration”

~ Casey Leahy ~

mtc-2Bravo to Finalist Casey Leahy !
Casey who is 28 from Chester, he blew the Judges away with his Baltic Porter

“Beer has been a passion of mine for some time. I began homebrewing a decade ago and don’t intend to stop. I was introduced to brewing and appreciation for great beer by my father. He was an avid homebrewer and taught me how to brew when I was in college. At the same time he taught me to revere beer as a cultural element. Craft beer became something I not only enjoyed but could participate in. I started brewing with my father’s old brewing equipment and with some of his old recipes. I quickly fell in love with the creative control and freedom that brewing gave me and was hooked.
Being ambitious and bold I quickly jumped to all grain brewing and began upgrading my equipment. The more I brewed the more I enjoyed the process and the results.
I am continually learning and expanding my knowledge of brewing. I love the great expansion of the craft beer industry and am thrilled to be involved in it. Beer is a great artistic outlet for me and I enjoy sharing it with others. Great beer has been a great joy for me and I am excited to be given the opportunity to share my beer with a broad audience, I hope you love it as much as I do!”
