Rocca di Frassinello Ornello Maremma Toscana DOC – Outstanding Flavor, Ratings, and Price!

frassinello-ornello-wineI am delighted to highlight Rocca di Frassinello Ornello Maremma Toscana DOC 2012 this week!

My industry friends at
Trattoria Delia
rip through this wine
and once you try it,
you’ll know why.

toscana_map_smornello-italian-wineOrnello instantly takes your senses across the Atlantic Ocean and drops them off in the heart Tuscany.

Breathing in aromas of redcurrants, stewed cherries, and vanilla then letting the earthy, almost balsamic like flavors wash over your palate is an exquisite experience.   Ornello is savory and full-bodied, yet round with supple and velvety tannins.

Savoring Ornello by itself is a treat.  Having Ornello with Pappardelle, Bistecca all Fiorentina, other meat dishes, or even cold cuts and ripe cheese is a memorable culinary experience.

ornello-wine-labelAt only $32.99 a bottle, Ornello is an affordable luxury that you can stun your family or friends with at your next gathering.  Ornello punches way above its weight, it is one of the top 10 wines in the store for under $40.

Distributed by my friends at, snag a bottle of Ornello and drink it now, with friends, or toss one in the wine cellar and break into it in case of a stunning wine emergency.

The image used on the label represents the “Maremma cowboy” a symbol of elegance and strength typical of Maremma. Still today, Ornello is the name of the wooden lance used to move cattle. The only Rocca di Frassinello wine with Syrah, this wine has a full and rich character with a nice elegance and freshness, typical of the winery style.

2012 Rocca di Frassinello Ornello Maremma Toscana DOC – 90 pts.
Wine Advocate, September 2015
The 2012 Maremma Toscana Ornello is a blend of Sangioveto, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. It shows a full and voluptuous style although it is hard to recognize the varietal characteristics given the various contrasting elements of the blend. You get the acidity of Sangiovese with the aromatic softness of both the Merlot and the Syrah backed by the natural structure of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Ornello may be lost among the vast sea of super Tuscan-inspired reds, but this wine shows very attractive features nonetheless. -Monica Larner

2012 Rocca di Frassinello Ornello Maremma Toscana DOC – 90 pts.
Wine Spectator, October 2014
“Taut and dense, showing cherry, mushroom, leather and chocolate aromas and flavors. Fresh and complex, with assertive tannins that need time to integrate. Fine length. Best from 2016 through 2023.” -Bruce Sanderson

Polar Jalapeno Citrus Margarita Seltzer & Jalapeno Cocktail Recipe

polar-jalapeno-citrus-margaritaAdd zip, bang, and pow to your next drink with Polar Jalapeno Citrus Margarita Seltzer – the latest seasonal, limited edition seltzer!

Just in time for Cinco de Mayo!  Don’t fear the heat.  You can totally drink this seltzer by itself.  The staff tried it, you don’t get heat.
The seltzer has a pleasant, refreshing citrus tone to it that would be great with a drier vodka like Reyka plus ice and a twist or lemon or lime (or both), or served the same way with silver tequila (Herradura) or a citrus forward gin such as Bombay Sapphire.

Jalapeno Cocktail

1 cup honey
1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
3 cups filtered water
1 jalapeno chile, sliced with seeds removed (or not, if you are really feeling up for some serious heat)
Lemon Vodka
Lemon Polar Seltzer

In a blender, combine honey and lemon juice. Blend and then add water. Pulse to combine. Add jalapeno and then let the liquid seep in refrigerator (1-3hrs depending how much “heat” you want to infuse). Be sure to test the flavor but avoid direct contact with the peppers. When liquid is sufficiently hot/spicy, add three parts lemonade and one part vodka in cocktail shaker with ice. Strain over ice and then top with lemon seltzer. Garnish with lemon wedge (or peppers if u dare).

Lollihops | Yakima Hop Candy

Hoppy deliciousness comes in many forms… not just beer!

We are pleased to now stock Lollihops, the hop candy made by Yakima Hop Candy out in Washington.  We keep a great variety of their candy in stock, let us know if you would like us to stock more of a specific flavor and we’ll get it in!

LolliHops are infused with real hops grown right here in the Yakima Valley.  We make our candy the old-fashioned way, carefully crafted at a stove and hand-poured.  They are 1.5″ round on a 4.5″ paper stick, wrapped in a crisp sleeve and tied with a silver twist tie.  Hold LolliHops up to the light and see the beautiful hoppy droplets!  Lollipops aren’t just for kids anymore, although a kid or two has been known to love our LolliHops.  There’s no alcohol in them – just hops. They have a touch of hoppy bitterness that leaves you with a delicious lingering flavor like you just finished a great IPA.

Available in 14 flavors – the list changes up seasonally, but currently they are:

Lemon Shandy, Hopped Cider, Root Beer, Black Licorice, Blood Orange, Raspberry, Mango, Chili Lime, Irish Stout, Jasmine, Original, Peach Lavender, Honey Hefe, and Passion fruit.
